Dosimetrist – Radiation Therapy

T he medical dosimetrist is a member of the radiation oncology team who has knowledge of the overall characteristics and clinical relevance of radiation oncology external beam treatment and planning equipment, and is cognizant of procedures commonly used in brachytherapy. The medical dosimetrist has the education and expertise necessary to generate radiation dose distributions and dose calculations, which achieve clinical goals established by the radiation oncologist and clinical trial/practice guidelines. Medical dosimetrists actively and openly communicate with radiation oncologists, medical physicists, radiation therapists, and nurses, among other team members, to ensure safe and accurate transfer of clinical and technical information. The medical dosimetrist is responsible for providing primary dosimetry services for the Department of Radiation Oncology in accordance with the highest standards of practice and as recommended by professional organizations and as required by regulatory agencies and accreditation groups.


  • Graduate of a medical dosimetry program which is accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) required.


  • At least one year experience as a Medical Dosimetrist and/or at least five years’ experience as a registered radiation therapist.
– C linical experience with Varian TrueBeam linac, Eclipse dosimetry system, SBRT and SRS treatment techniques is preferred. Experience with Aria and Mosaiq EHRs, Elekta Synergy linac, Pinnacle dosimetry system, and Philips Brilliance CT unit is a plus.
