Under the direction of the senior athletic coordinator, creates, coordinates youth and adult sports and athletic programming. Serves as the athletic programs volunteer coordinator. Requires the ability to maintain flexible work shifts to include weekends, early mornings or late evenings, and holidays.


  • Researches, develops, and implements adult and youth sport programs.
  • Assists with interviewing, hiring, and training employees. Assigns and directs work of part-time staff including, but not limited to, scheduling, supervising and coaching; performance appraisals; addresses complaints and resolves problems.
  • Provides daily on-site supervision of classes/programs, leading by example and instructing safe and age-appropriate activities.
  • Provides effective instruction to Chilson Guest Services staff regarding registration materials; communicates regularly and effectively with Chilson Facility staff to schedule facility reservations and classroom set-up needs.
  • Provides effective public relations for the department by responding to all inquiries about program offerings in a timely manner; assists with the management of class/program registrations and waitlists, notifies participants of changes and cancellations, and processes refunds.
  • Works with senior athletic coordinator to monitor the budget, compiling supply inventories, purchasing program supplies, food, and equipment.
  • Responsible for all payroll and accounts payable for athletics.
  • Responsible for the administration of the officiating contract.

Assists with special events and department functions as requested. Assists with recruitment of sponsors and volunteers, marketing, organization, and supervision of events.

Provides daily supervision and support to all part-time/seasonal staff and volunteers.
Highest level supervised: non-exempt employee(s).
Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.

Education and/or experience:
Bachelor degree in Recreation administration, sport administration or related field required. An equivalent combination of education and/or experience may substitute for education requirement on a year-for-year basis.

Licensure and/or certifications:
Must possess or be able to obtain a First Aid, CPR, and Universal Precautions/Bloodborne Pathogens Certifications within six months of hire date. Must be able to pass state and federal criminal and child abuse/neglect background screens prior to working with children.

Working Environment and Required Background Checks: Performs the duties of this position in several locations, both indoors and outdoors in unsheltered locations May be exposed to dirt, sand, water and varying weather conditions. Bends, pushes, pulls, stoops, kneels, climbs, carries and lifts participants (up to 70 pounds). May be exposed to noisy and stressful situations. Instructs and demonstrates various recreational and athletic activities, ensuring the safety of all participants.
